What is a Child Arrangements Order?

Child Arrangements Order are a type of court order made in children proceedings.

What is Parental Responsibility?

Parental responsibility is a legal concept which is defined in the Children Act 1989 (which is a law created by Parliament) as: “all the rights, duties, powers, responsibilities and authority which by law a parent of a child has in relation to the child and [their] property”

Questioning in court where there are allegations of domestic abuse

There is a law called the Domestic Abuse Act 2021 which stops someone accused of abuse from questioning the victim in court (where the victim is a party in a court case or a witness in a court case). This law also stops a victim of abuse from having to question in court the person accused of that abuse (in specific circumstances).

Who is enlighten for?

enlighten is designed for anyone dealing with a separation or separation-related issue in England and Wales who is looking to manage their case themselves.

Our tools and guidance will enable you to run your case yourself from start to finish.

Do I still need a lawyer?

That's up to you.

enlighten is not a law firm and does not provide legal advice specific to your case. Our experts have spent thousands of hours curating the information on our site to give you the best chance possible of understanding your situation. However, there might still be situations where you would find it helpful to speak to a lawyer.

How much does enlighten cost?

We recognise the importance of transparency when it comes to costs. We have set up a simple modular structure for our packages so you only pay for what you need. Each enlighten package offers something different and can be purchased by itself or alongside other packages as part of a bundle.

There are four packages available but the most any one person will buy is three because some packages aren't compatible with others. This means the most you will spend on an enlighten bundle is £700.

enlighten's Divorce & dissolution package costs £100, while our Divorce & dissolution finances, Arrangements for children and Financial enforcement packages all cost £300.

The court also charges fees for certain processes. These fees are set by the court and payable directly to the court. enlighten does not get any of this money.

Does my ex have to sign up?

No, but they can if they want.

All our tools are designed for individuals to use for themselves, so you don't need your ex to be a member in order to get everything you need from our products. However, because we are not a law firm we are able to work with both you and your ex.

What happens if I change my mind?

We are happy to give a full refund to anyone who changes their mind as long as they have not used the product. By using the product we mean logging in to your account.
